Manufacturing Technology Centre

The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is one of the seven centres that form the High Value Manufacturing Catapult in the UK. MTC was established to prove innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and industry. MTC is a membership organisation with now more than 90 industrial members which include Rolls-Royce, Airbus UK, Siemens, Hewlett Packard and others. The membership incorporates a good mix of technology providers and end users for digital manufacturing. Founder research partners include the University of Birmingham, University of Nottingham, Loughborough University and TWI Ltd.

The MTC provides a high quality environment for the development and demonstration of new technologies on an industrial scale in a low risk environment. MTC specialises in a range of manufacturing processes that are particularly valuable to the high value manufacturing sector; MTC has a strong focus on ICT for Manufacturing including themes like manufacturing informatics, intelligent automation, modelling & simulation, additive manufacturing which are just some of them with high relevance to this project.

The technology development programmes that are currently running at MTC provide demonstrators for the use of ICT technologies for manufacturing through work in the TRL 4 - 7 range, integrating OEM’s, supply chain and equipment suppliers.

MTC brings to the Consortium a critical infrastructure, having established the Advanced Training Manufacturing Centre (AMTC), an environment designed for industrial training relevant to Future Factories. MTC is also developing the concept of the Learning Factory that represents the most advanced technologies for demonstration, testing and holistic industrial training. Furthermore, MTC can contribute through an extensive shop floor with a large number of machines / smart objects (AM, conventional and non-conventional machining), automation and assembly cells on industrial scale which provide a background for demonstration on industrial level.
